Nice guys might not finish first but at least they can live with themselves and their conscience. The race is NOT about finishing first but about HOW you run the race. People are people, good, bad and indifferent - but YOU have a choice in what type of person you are going to be not only every day, but each minute of each hour of each day. Be the person we (and you) know you can be.

Cheer, Cheer, Cheer!

Hey Ryan I'm sorry but I don't believe nice guys always finish first. Hope you do but there's a lot of squashers around. Just got to try and avoid them.

----------
y'know... you're right. Thanks for the insight. It's just too bad that the nice people have to always have squasher radar. Maybe that's better than living with a poor attitude! --ry

Damn, Janette. I agree with you. I think I could control quite a bit of the things on my lists, but like you said, it's hard to really be in control of how other people are. I know I can control my reaction, but you know it's soooo hard to make those moments into positives at times. You can look back at any situation and say, "Ya, I should have responded that way." But when you're in the moment, it's a very different circumstance. I could be making "experience" very hefty now, and therefore could be making a future opportunity more beneficial finanically, but sometimes I feel like I'm not being rewarded for it currently. Then again, when I doubt myself, I'm like -- why am I even receiving the salary I am now? That's just the doubtful side. Dream situation: still in progress. I think I know where I want to be, however it is always greater when you know the family and friends you love are nearby. Even if those people weren't *right there,* I think the location is a huge factor. So the ultimate answer is -- I still don't know jack crap. I don't know where Sarah and I want to be (maybe she does???) and I still don't know what my dream situation is, and I still don't know NOTHING!!!!

When do answers begin flowing freely? I'm 28. I'm still waiting :\

In looking at the cons listing for your current position - how many of those cons can you control and/or directly influence? Sleep deprivation - not fun to deal with - what can you do to alleviate that situation? Undesirable people/work situations - how can you change/alter the situation so it isn't so difficult to work with those challenging personalities? Payscale vs. experience - are you gaining anything by your current position that will be even more advantageous when it is time to move on? Thus allowing you to negotiate an even better salary and/or position?

Concerning your Dream Situation (and yes every person on the planet has a dream situation whether or not they articulate their desire for that situation). Just a couple of questions concerning your particular desires. What about the big city market draws you? Please be specific. The region and/or location close to friends and family - are your friends all centrally located? What would happen if they relocated - would you still want to be in that particular area or would you move again to be close to them? The owning a nice and comfortable home segment you already have accomplished - Kudos to you. The environment where people are professional and respectful - that is difficult as every environment has those individuals whose personalities might not correspond to your particular beliefs, ideologies or patterns of behavior and/or work. Part of this is understanding how to work with those difficult/challenging personalities while retaining your position and respecting their position regardless of how ridiculous you believe it is. No matter how hard we try it is virtually impossible to eradicate the ignorance within others - all we can do is maintain our professionalism and understand that they either do not understand the concepts of professionalism, respect and appropriate behavior or they have never been exposed to those concepts and thus are truly ignorant (in which case I would suggest some leisure reading material to them so they no longer remain in a state of ignorance) or they are consciously choosing to engage in inappropriate behavior in which case nothing you say or do will help them.

Those are some of my thoughts and questions. Please feel free to respond if you so desire.

good for you!! i think when people stand up for themselves others are usually more shocked than offended. one of my pet peeves is when someone suggests a new idea and it's shot down because "we've always done it this way."
