A wedding in the rain

A wedding in the rain

Originally uploaded by sarahsmileTX

It continued to rain, and rain, and rain last night. Even so, we drove down to Howe last night to see my little brother Jake get married to a lovely girl named Haley. They had decided to get married about a week ago and managed to pull off a lovely ceremony in such a short time. She wore my mom’s veil, which she gathered on to a garland to wear. They got married at her mom’s house, which we packed into because of all the rain and mud outside. But it was a nice ceremony, taken from the new Lutheran hymnal and similar to the liturgy Ryan and I had at our wedding.

It’s weird to think of Jake being married, but I wish him and Haley all the joy and happiness that Ryan and I have had in our marriage so far!

In vino felicitas

In vino felicitas

Or in my own made-up version of Latin, “in wine, there is happiness.” We took Dad out to Homestead Winery in Ivanhoe this afternoon for a belated Father’s Day outing. It was a pleasant, warm, partly cloudy day, just right to make the half-hour drive. We took a look behind the scenes and saw their new production machine, which fills, corks, labels, and foils each bottle. It wasn’t running, but it looked like a cool way to make some wine ready for consumption!

After the mini-tour, the five of us – Ryan, Janette, Mom, Dad and I – had a mega-tasting. We sampled 10 of their wines, getting progressively giddier as the afternoon wore on. We selected bottles to buy, then each had a glass of our favorite on the deck and chatted for a good long while.

After we left the winery, we were all starving (and half drunk), so we went back to Sherman and had an early-bird dinner at Cheddar’s before we dropped Mom and Dad off at home. We came back to the house and all three crashed for a nap, and I opted to let Ryan continue sleep until he needs to get up for work. We had such a busy weekend!!

The Week and The Week’s End

Blogging has been the least of my concerns this week.  With the flood on Monday, and then trying to get everything in order during this week, I’ve been lazy when I’ve had time to be lazy.  I just go home and collapse.  Work is all right, despite rough spots here and there concerning certain specific issues.  I’m just moving past them, and concentrating on the higher goal.

The weekend will bring some much needed rest, and a trip to Frisco to the largest IKEA store in the country!  Furniture for the den… because, yes… the den is finally almost done!!!

Pictures to follow.
